No scientific evidence within country emphasizes need for COVID boosters: ICMR expert

Several experts in India have recommended booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines, particularly for people with comorbidities and for healthcare workers. However, as per government sources, the Center’s focus currently is on maximum coverage of full vaccination.

Head of the Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases division at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Samiran Panda, said that scientific evidence from within the country at present does not emphasize the need for a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Dr Panda added that public health considerations are the priority at present and the need of the hour is to achieve 80% coverage or more among people with two vaccine doses. He emphasized focus on the vaccination program over the booster jab… (ET Healthworld – ANI, November 21, 2021)
