COVID-19 vaccine evokes weak antibodies in people taking immunosuppressants, says study

According to a new study, individuals who were administered two doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine while they were receiving treatment with TNF inhibitors, a class of immunosuppressants, developed less potent antibodies, which were short-lived, compared to healthy individuals and those taking other types of immunosuppressants.

The study, published in the journal ‘Med’, noted that the finding was particularly evident for the Delta variant. While a third vaccine dose led to an increase in antibody levels, the investigators dont know how for long the levels will continue to remain high. The study suggests that people taking TNF inhibitors have a high risk of breakthrough COVID infections and administration of a third dose would likely be beneficial in these individuals… (HT – ANI, November 23, 2021)
