Molnupiravir found significantly less effective in updated study

Merck & Co announced that according to the updated data from the study of its experimental COVID-19 pill, the drug was found to be significantly less effective in reducing hospitalizations and deaths as compared to what was reported earlier.

The drug led to a 30% reduction in hospitalizations and deaths, according to data obtained from 1,433 patients. In the month of October, the study had shown an efficacy of around 50%, based on data collected from 775 patients. Provisional data from the Pfizer trial for its experimental pill in 1,200 individuals had shown an 89% reduction in hospitalizations and deaths.
