62 test positive at old age home in Maharashtra

Sixty two people residing in an old age home in Sorgaon village in rural Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, have tested positive for COVID-19, reported district health officials. These include 55 inmates, five staffers and two of their relatives. 

The 55 inmates, all aged above 60 years, have been admitted to Thane Civil Hospital. Five more inmates who are suspected to be infected have also been hospitalized. The area has been declared a containment zone. The health department stated that 60 out of the 62 infected individuals were fully vaccinated.

An inmate of the Matoshree old age home first tested positive on Friday after undergoing a screening at a private facility. A team of government doctors then visited the old age home the next day and tested 109 inmates. The cluster of cases was identified after the tests.
