India imposes new rules for arrivals from at-risk countries over variant concern

The Indian government has said that people traveling to India will be required to upload their 14-day travel history and a negative RT-PCR test report on the Air Suvidha portal before starting their travel to the country.

The RT-PCR test report should not be older than 72 hours. Passengers traveling from nations categorized as ‘at-risk’ will be subjected to testing on arrival. If tested positive, the samples will be sent to INSACOG for genomic sequencing and the passengers will be placed in institutional quarantine. Those who test negative will have to remain in home quarantine for seven days. They will be required to take a test on the 8th day and monitor their health for the next 7 days. Additionally, random testing will be conducted on 5% of the passengers not traveling from the at-risk countries.

The at-risk countries, as categorized by the government, include South Africa, China, the United Kingdom, European nations, Brazil, Botswana, Bangladesh, Mauritius, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong, Singapore and Israel… (HT, November 28, 2021)
