Omicron detected in India, 5 contacts of a patient test positive for COVID

Two cases of the Omicron variant were detected in India on December 2 in the state of Karnataka. 

Five contacts of one patient, who is a doctor from Bengaluru, have been found to be COVID positive, reported the state. The patients have been isolated and their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.

One of the two patients with Omicron variant, a 46-year-old fully vaccinated doctor, had no travel history and developed fever and body ache on November 21. Contact tracing revealed that he had 13 direct contacts and over 250 secondary contacts. The other Omicron patient is a 66-year-old foreign national who had come to India with a negative COVID-19 report. He tested positive on arrival and was told to self-isolate. A week later, he received a negative COVID report and left for Dubai. Samples from his primary and secondary contacts have shown negative results… (NDTV, December 2, 2021)
