New York has confirmed five cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, taking the number of U.S. states which have detected the variant to five, with a total of ten cases reported nationwide.

California, Colorado and Minnesota have identified cases of Omicron among fully vaccinated individuals, who developed mild symptoms. In Hawaii, a case was reported in an unvaccinated individual, who developed moderate symptoms.

One of the cases in New York is a 67-year-old woman from Long Island who had a headache and cough. She had recently returned from South Africa. She had some vaccination history but it was not clearly known whether she had received one or both doses or a booster dose, said New York Governor Kathy Hochul.
