Omicron detected in five U.S. states

New York has confirmed five cases of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, taking the number of U.S. states which have detected the variant to five, with a total of ten cases reported nationwide.

California, Colorado and Minnesota have identified cases of Omicron among fully vaccinated individuals, who developed mild symptoms. In Hawaii, a case was reported in an unvaccinated individual, who developed moderate symptoms.

One of the cases in New York is a 67-year-old woman from Long Island who had a headache and cough. She had recently returned from South Africa. She had some vaccination history but it was not clearly known whether she had received one or both doses or a booster dose, said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. The patient in Minnesota is the first known case of community transmission of Omicron in the U.S. The patient is a fully vaccinated man with recent travel to New York City… (Reuters, December 3, 2021)
