Omicron detected in one-third of U.S. states

The Omicron variant has reached nearly one-third of the U.S. states, though the Delta variant of the coronavirus still dominates amid a nationwide rise in cases, stated U.S. health officials.

Amid concerns about the Omicron variant, Dr. Anthony Fauci, top U.S. infectious disease official, said that there does not seem to be a great degree of severity associated with the new variant thus far, adding that it is still too early to draw conclusions and more data is needed.

At least 16 states in the United States have now reported Omicron cases, including California, Connecticut, Colorado, Hawaii, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin. Several cases have been reported among fully vaccinated individuals, with mild symptoms… (Reuters, December 6, 2021)
