The Director of Medical Education (DME) suspended Dr K Chakravarthi a radiologist, working for over a decade as the Senior Resident at the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai for sexually harassing a patient.

The hospital sources said that the patient had undergone a kidney transplant and was asked to undergo an abdomen scan at GRH on November 26. But as advised, the patient along with her mother went to the hospital’s scan centre at the Super Speciality Block on November 27. The senior doctor asked the patient’s mother and the female nursing assistant to wait outside the scan room. A few minutes later, the patient came out in tears and complained that the doctor sexually harassed her.

Based on the complaint, a three-member inquiry committee was set up by the Head of Department Dr Sundari and Dean Dr A Rathinavel and found the senior doctor guilty. A detailed report was submitted by the GRH Dean to the DME Dr R Narayana Babu on Friday and he ordered the suspension of Dr K Chakravarthi.
