Dengue deaths in Delhi: Highest in the past six years.

Six more people died due to dengue in Delhi, taking the death toll to 15 this year which is the highest in the past six years. Last week, 699 new cases were also reported, making the total count 8,975 in 2021 to date as compared to 1,072 cases in 2020. 

On Monday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation officially reported that most of the deaths took place in October and early November as per the data till December 4. The six victims included four men and two women — five were from south Delhi and one from north Delhi. The first dengue death was reported this year on September 26 from Sarita Vihar. The number of deaths was 60 in 2015, 423 in 1996, 10 in 2016 and 10 in 2017, 4 in 2018, 2 in 2019, and 1 in 2020.

In 2015, Delhi reported 15,730 cases till December which was the highest since 1996. The total dengue cases were 4,431 in 2016, 4,726 in 2017, 2,798 in 2018, 2,036 in 2019, according to the report.
