WHO Advises Against Plasma Therapy for Mild or Moderate COVID-19

According to the World Health Organization, treatment for COVID-19 using plasma taken from the blood of recovered patients should not be given to patients with mild or moderate disease.

The global health agency said that according to current evidence, convalescent plasma therapy does not seem to improve survival or reduce the need for mechanical ventilation, is costly and time-consuming to administer. The advice is published in the British Medical Journal. The agency made a ‘strong recommendation’ against the use of plasma therapy in patients who do not have serious illness and added that even in patients with severe and critical illness, it should be given only as part of a clinical trial…(NDTV – AFP, December 7, 2021)
