Decision on additional vaccine dose deferred in India

The advisory group on COVID immunization has put off any decision on an additional vaccine dose as there was no consensus on whether there is a need to administer a booster jab to people at high risk of infection or severe illness due to COVID-19. A senior official said that the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) has not made any recommendation yet.

Experts are more inclined towards protecting the immunocompromised children with vaccination, and the guidelines for the same will likely be submitted by the end of this week. NTAGI for COVID-19 has evaluated data which shows that there is high seropositivity in the Indian population, stated sources.
