FDA Authorizes Antibody Combo to Prevent COVID-19 in Vulnerable People

The FDA has granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for a monoclonal antibody combination, tixagevimab-cilgavimab for the prevention of COVID-19 in immunocompromised individuals as well as those with a history of a severe vaccine reaction.

The antibody combo can be used as pre-exposure prophylaxis for those aged 12 years and older who are not infected at present, have not been exposed to the virus, and are either moderately or severely immunocompromised or have had a severe adverse reaction to a COVID-19 vaccine, thus ruling out completion of the vaccination schedule. The combination is given as two intramuscular injections, one of each antibody, in immediate succession. It may prevent COVID-19 for up to 6 months, stated the FDA… (Medpage Today)
