South Africa Approves COVID Vaccine Boosters for Adults

South Africa has granted approval for Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots for people aged above 18 years, amid a rise in new cases dominated by the Omicron variant.

A statement by the South African Health Products Authority said that a third vaccine dose is being authorized in individuals 18 years of age and above, to be given at least six months after the second vaccine dose. It further stated that severely immunocompromised children in the age group of 12 to 17 years can be administered a third dose at least 28 days after the second dose.
