WHO recommends COVID booster shot for immunocompromised or those who received inactivated vaccine

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended that immunocompromised individuals or those who received an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine should get a booster dose to protect against the declining immunity.

The recommendation was made after a meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on immunisation on Tuesday which was held to determine the need for COVID-19 boosters.

SAGE chair, Alejandro Cravioto, said that they support equity in vaccine distribution and the use of a third dose only in those who have underlying health problems or people who have been administered an inactivated vaccine. He said that vaccines protect against severe disease for at least six months; however, data suggest that immunity declines against severe disease in older adults and people with underlying health conditions… (ET Healthworld – Reuters, December 9, 2021)
