The Swiss medicines agency Swissmedic has approved vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

It said that clinical trial results suggest that the vaccine is safe and effective in this age group. The vaccine is administered in two doses of 10 μg at an interval of three weeks. A clinical trial, currently underway, involving over 1,500 people suggests that the vaccine offers almost complete protection against serious disease in those aged between 5 and 11 years.
