Australia Reduces Waiting Time for Booster Shots amid Omicron Concerns

Australia has said that the country is going to reduce the waiting time for people to receive COVID-19 booster shots after a surge in Omicron cases.

The country had stated earlier that a COVID-19 booster shot will be offered to everyone above 18 years of age and who had received their second vaccine dose six months prior. However, with an increase in the cases due to the Omicron variant, the country’s Health Minister, Greg Hunt, said that the time interval will be reduced to five months following the second vaccine dose.

In an email statement, the minister said that a booster shot, given five or more months following the second dose, will ensure that the protection from the primary vaccine series is even stronger and lasts longer and should help prevent the virus spread... (NDTV – Reuters, December 12, 2021)
