Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson said to the reporters on Monday that one patient has died in the United Kingdom due to an infection caused by the Omicron variant.

He further said that the variant may be a milder one, but it’s necessary to monitor its transmissibility among the population. Tough restrictions were imposed after the first Omicron case was detected in the UK on Nov. 27. To prevent the crisis in the health service he requested people to get booster shots.

Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary said the spread of the Omicron Coronavirus variant was at a phenomenal rate and about 40% of infections in London were due to the Omicron variant.
