Two-Dose Vaccines Induce Insufficient Antibodies against Omicron, Says Study

According to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Oxford, two-dose COVID-19 vaccines do not appear to induce enough neutralising antibodies against the Omicron variant. This suggests that people who have been infected previously or those who are vaccinated may contract infections.

In the study, which awaits peer-review, researchers assessed the blood samples obtained from people who received doses of AstraZeneca-Oxford or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines in a large study evaluating mixing of vaccines.

The study by Oxford researchers suggests that there is no evidence as yet that the lower level of antibodies against the new variant could result in a higher risk of severe disease, hospital admissions or death in individuals who have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines...
