Omicron constitutes 2.9% of COVID variants in U.S. - CDC

The Omicron variant was estimated to constitute 2.9% of the coronavirus variants circulating in the United States as of December 11, reported data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

For the week that ended on December 4, Omicron constituted 0.4% of all variants circulating in the country. The agency further stated that the highly mutated variant was 13.1% of the COVID-19 variants circulating in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands as of December 11.

Meanwhile, the 7-day moving average of daily fresh infections surged by 37.3% from the previous average. The Delta variant predominates in the country, accounting for more than 96.7% of all COVID cases in the country, suggest CDC data… (Reuters, December 15, 2021)
