Our vaccines may possibly become ineffective in emerging situations, says India's COVID panel head

Amid Omicron concerns, India’s COVID Task Force chief, Dr VK Paul, said the country must have vaccine platforms that are quickly adaptable with the changing nature of the coronavirus variants.

He hopes that COVID-19 is moving towards endemicity in India. However, he said that there is a possibility that our vaccines may become ineffective in the emerging situations. He added that over the past three weeks of living with Omicron, such doubts have been raised and some of them may be genuine. He added that we must have vaccine platforms that are adaptable quickly.

“…..We have to be ready to be able to have a situation where resiliently we are able to modify the vaccines as they require. This may not happen every three months, but this could happen every year perhaps," he said… (NDTV – PTI, December 15, 2021)
