New CDC strategy to allow children exposed to coronavirus to attend school

The US the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that students who have had exposure to the coronavirus can continue in-person learning safely if they undergo regular testing for the virus at school.

The agency released two studies reporting the effectiveness of the “test-to-stay” strategy. School districts across the country have tried this approach; however, it is not widely in practice. CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said that the studies suggest that “test-to-stay” strategy works to keep unvaccinated students in school safely.

Walensky said that the agency would update its materials to help schools and parents implement the new strategy. But with the increasing number of cases and concerns that all districts may not be able to implement a test-to-stay strategy, the agency is not updating its formal guidance to recommend a switch to this strategy.… (Washington Post, December 17, 2021)
