Texas has reported its first death related to the Omicron variant, a man who had not received COVID-19 vaccination, reported the Harris County health department.

This is reportedly the first known Omicron death in the United States. The man, aged 50-60 years, had a higher risk of severe complications from COVID-19 because he was not vaccinated, stated the health department.

County judge Lina Hidalgo said in a tweet that the man was the first local fatality related to the variant and urged people to get vaccinated and boosted.

Earlier in December, Britain had reported the first confirmed fatality related to Omicron. Till now, 12 deaths have been reported in Britain related to the variant, and 104 patients are hospitalized, said Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab… (NDTV – Reuters, December 21, 2021)
