The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has said that the Omicron variant is spreading faster than the Delta variant and is leading to infections in vaccinated individuals or those who have recovered from COVID-19.

WHO chief scientist, Soumya Swaminathan, stated that it would be inappropriate to deduce from early data that the new variant was milder than the previous ones. She added that as the case numbers rise, it will strain the healthcare systems. She further stated that Omicron is able to successfully evade some immune responses, which suggests that the booster shots currently being rolled out in several countries should target people with weaker immune systems… (Money Control – Reuters, December 21, 2021)
