The World Health Organization has granted emergency use listing (EUL) to the COVID-19 vaccine made by Novavax, after the European Medicines Agency gave it a go-ahead.

The European Medicines Agency assessed and approved the vaccine, called Nuvaxovid, on Monday. The vaccine has been made from a more traditional technology compared to the ones already approved, thus raising hopes among officials in Brussels that this will help convince people who are hesitant about vaccination to come forward and get their jabs. The technology used in the Novavax vaccine is a tried and tested approach, which has been in use for decades for vaccinating people against hepatitis B and whooping cough. This is a two-dose vaccine and has become the 10th vaccine to be given an EUL by the WHO.

The vaccine was found to be about 90% effective for reducing symptomatic COVID-19 in two clinical trials, one conducted in Britain and the other in the United States and Mexico… (NDTV – AFP, December 21, 2021)
