Explain to the patients the drugs that you are prescribing to them

“Patients have the right to request information on the names, dosages and adverse effects of the medication that they are treated with,” as stated by the NABH/DMAI Patient Charter. The Consumer Guidance Society of India also says, “Patients should be explained about whatever treatment/medicines are prescribed to them. They should be made aware of the risks and side effects, if any. They have the right to ask questions and clarify their doubts about the treatment.”

Regulation 6.5 of the MCI Code of Medical Ethics Regulations, 2002, ‘Secret Remedies’, requires that “All the drugs prescribed by a physician should always carry a proprietary formula and clear name.”
