The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has cautioned that the hurry to roll out additional COVID-19 vaccine doses in the affluent nations was further worsening the inequity in vaccine access, thus prolonging the pandemic.

The WHO chief emphasized that the priority should be to get vaccines to vulnerable people everywhere rather than administering additional doses to the already vaccinated ones. He said, "No country can boost its way out of the pandemic." He said that booster programs will not end the pandemic, rather prolong it.
