Night curfews are back as Omicron surges in India

Several states in India have now imposed tougher restrictions as Omicron continues to surge in the country.

Maharashtra banned the assembly of more than five people in public places from 9 pm to 6 am, while Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Haryana imposed night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am, starting Saturday.

Earlier, Madhya Pradesh had imposed similar restrictions. Odisha also imposed restrictions on celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Day, as Gujarat extended the duration of night curfew in eight cities by 2 hours. The new timings are 11 pm to 5 am, which earlier was 1 am to 5 am.

Maharashtra government announced that restaurants, cinema halls, theatres, and gyms will operate at 50% capacity. In Haryana, the maximum number of people at indoor and outdoor events has been restricted to 200 and 300, respectively… (Business Standard, December 25, 2021)
