The number of COVID-19 cases is showing a sharp rise in several states in north and west India, despite a fall in cases across the country.

The case numbers in the country witnessed a decline of 6% over the week ending Sunday. However, the figures in Delhi, Haryana and Jharkhand increased over two-fold during the period in comparison with the previous week. The country registered around 46,000 cases during the week of December 20-26, coming down from more than 49,000 cases reported in the previous week, representing the lowest weekly tally in over 19 months since May 18-24, last year. Kerala reported a drop of 24% from the previous week’s tally.
