COVID-19 cases hit a daily record globally on Monday. There were over 1.44 million infections globally, breaking a previous record.

The seven-day rolling average was also at a record level, driven by the wave of Omicron cases. The highly mutated variant is fast becoming dominant across the globe, while evading immunity provided by vaccines and prior infection. The seven-day rolling average of cases on Monday was estimated at about 841,000, showing an increase of 49% from a month ago.
