India approves two COVID-19 vaccines, a COVID pill

India granted approval to two more COVID-19 vaccines and one antiviral pill for the treatment of COVID-19 on Tuesday. 

The two new vaccines approved by drug regulator include Corbevax and Covovax. The antiviral drug molnupiravir has also been approved for use in an emergency, stated Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

The announcement came a day after the COVID-19 Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) recommended that emergency use authorization (EUA) be granted to the vaccines Covovax and Corbevax with certain conditions. The committee had also recommended granting restricted emergency use approval to molnupiravir for treatment of adult COVID-19 patients having a high risk of disease progression.
