U.S. CDC revises projection, Omicron variant estimated to be 58.6% of cases

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the Omicron variant accounted for around 58.6% of the coronavirus variants circulating in the United States for the week that ended on December 25.

The CDC also revised the proportion of cases due to Omicron for the week ending December 18 to 22% from 73% reported earlier. A CDC spokesperson said that they had received more data for that time period and there was a reduced proportion of Omicron cases.

The agency stated that the Delta variant, which had been dominating for the past few months, was accountable for 41.1% of all COVID-19 cases in the United States as of December 25… (India Today – Reuters, December 29, 2021)
