The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi (AIIMS) has extended the tenure of resident doctors by one month because of the COVID surge.

In a letter issued by the institute’s registrar,  a decision was taken to extend the tenure of resident doctors by 1 month due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic surge with due approval from the competent authority. There was a need to provide comprehensive patient care services at AIIMS.

During the extension period, the resident doctors would exclusively work in COVID affected areas. Only, patients with prior appointments will be registered and seen by doctors in OPDs and focusing on COVID patients and conducting emergency services. AIIMS was in process of getting rooms ready for the COVID patients.

The institute is also charting a contingency action plan and it will be operational after December 31.
