COVID-19 hospitalizations increase among US children, spark new concerns

Within a few weeks, the Omicron variant of coronavirus has led to thousands of new hospitalizations related to COVID-19 among US children. This has sparked new concerns about how the unvaccinated individuals below 18 years of age will fare amid the new surge.

The seven-day-average of daily hospitalizations for children from December 21 to December 27 increased over 58% across the country, compared to around 19% for all age groups, suggested data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Less than 25% of the Americans aged below 18 years are vaccinated, suggest CDC data.
