The UK government has said that every adult in England has had the chance to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster and over 28.1 million people in England have had their booster jabs, stated the Department of Health. This translates to about 7 of 10 eligible people. 

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has often pointed to the vaccine rollout as the rationale for not introducing tougher restrictions. However, his strategy to fight the latest wave with a ramped-up vaccination program along with home testing is under increasing pressure now. Overall, 11,452 patients were in the hospital in England with COVID-19 as of Thursday, as per latest data from NHS England. Daily admissions are increasing with 2,082 admissions reported on December 28.
