87 doctors test positive for Covid-19 at Bihar's Nalanda Medical College and Hospital

Chandrashekhar Singh, District Magistrate, Patna said on Monday that 87 doctors tested positive in Bihar′s Nalanda Medical College and Hospital after attending an Indian Medical Association′s function last week. Several dignitaries, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, attended the function. The doctors were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms and were isolated in the hospital campus.

Two doctors tested positive for Covid-19, at AIIMS, Patna on 1st Jan 22. According to the health department, the state reported 352 fresh cases of coronavirus on Sunday and the active cases had reached 1074. 281 and 158 fresh cases were reported on Saturday and Friday, respectively.

However, no fatality due to the disease has been reported in the last four days.

Patna was the worst hit with 544 cases, followed by Gaya with 277 cases, and together accounted for about 80% of the state′s total active caseload.

According to Indian Medical Association (IMA), Bihar reported the highest number of doctors′ deaths during the second wave which hit the country between April and May last year.
