Around 84.4 lakh teens, aged between 15 and 17 years, were administered their first vaccine dose till 10pm on Tuesday in India.

Around 42 lakh teenagers were inoculated on Monday, and a similar number were administered the first dose on Tuesday. The government intends to achieve 85-90% coverage of first dose in this age group in 15-20 days’ time, stated a senior official. The health ministry has estimated around 7.4 crore teens in the 15-17 years age group. There is a plan to gradually expand the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination to all age groups.

Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh have vaccinated the maximum number of teenagers, at around 11 lakh and 10 lakh, respectively. Other states that administered a high number of vaccine doses in this age group included Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka… (ET Healthworld – TNN, January 5, 2022)
