A local court sentenced imprisonment and fined four people, including three doctors in Bidar, for a botched surgery which resulted in the death of a woman.

On 12, October 2014, Sampavati, wife of Ghaleppa Auradakar was admitted to Sushrut Nursing Home in the city for a hysterectomy procedure. But after a 5-hour surgery, she died due to alleged medical negligence. Dr Rajshree Biradar and Dr Vaijinath Biradar, and Saibanna shifted her to Dr Rajshekhar Patil’s Shree Hospital in an ambulance, and Dr Patil continued the treatment without disclosing her condition to the family.

Later, it was revealed that Sampavati had died at Sushrut Nursing Home itself due to the lack of a ventilator facility, which was essential for such a surgery.

The II Civil (senior) and JMFC Court judge Abdul Khadar sentenced Dr Rajshree Biradar and Dr Vaijinath Biradar, and Saibanna, to 2years imprisonment and fined them Rs 10,000 each. In case of failure to pay the fine, they would have to serve an additional 6 months in prison. Dr Rajshekar Patil was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 and an extended 1-month imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.

Public Prosecutor Sharan Gowda and Assistant Public Prosecutor Sunil Kamble argued the case.
