CDC updates COVID prevention guidance for K-12 schools

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated the guidance for COVID-19 prevention in K-12 schools, aligning the recommendations with the COVID-19 quarantine and isolation guidelines for the general public. 

The agency also expanded the recommendations for screening testing and called for canceling or going virtual with certain extracurricular and sports activities. The updated K-12 school recommendations suggest that children who have not been fully vaccinated and are exposed to the virus must quarantine for at least five days following their last close contact with a person having COVID-19. Unvaccinated adults or those who have not received a booster shot have also been advised to follow this recommendation. The recommendations also state that students, teachers and staff with COVID-19 should stay at home and isolate for at least five days. Those whose symptoms are improving can end isolation after five days if there has been no fever for 24 hours. However, they should continue to wear a mask around others for another five days… (CNN, January 7, 2022)
