Duration of fever in current COVID surge shorter: Experts

An important observation that has been made after the analysis of new COVID-19 cases over the past three weeks is that the duration of fever in the latest surge has been shorter than that seen during the Delta wave, noted Maharashtra COVID task force members. 

Another key finding is that the chest CT scan reports are showing normal results in most of the patients. COVID-19 task force member Dr Shashank Joshi said that a major difference between the current COVID surge and the Delta wave is that the current surge, in most cases, is showing predominantly upper respiratory tract symptoms with fever for a much shorter duration, sometimes up to 72 hours only. On the other hand, the Delta surge was associated with high-grade fever persisting for a long time.

Dr Joshi stated that clinical features of Omicron, as observed from the cases in the past three weeks, included painful/ burning/ sore /scratchy throat, fever, headache or body ache, cough, stuffy nose, nausea or bloating, myalgia and persistent fatigue continuing for two to five days.
