5-10% COVID-19 cases requiring hospitalization, situation may change: Govt

About 5% to 10% of the active COVID-19 cases this time needed to be hospitalized thus far; however, the situation is dynamic and may change, said the Center.

The Center asked states to observe the cases under home isolation and in hospitals. During the second wave of the pandemic in India, the percentage of active cases that required hospitalization was around 20-23%, stated Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan in a letter to states and Union Territories.

All states and Union Territories have been advised to keep a daily check on the status of the number of active cases, cases under home isolation, number of hospitalized cases, cases on oxygen beds, ICU beds and on ventilatory support… (ET Healthworld – Reuters, January 10, 2022)
