With a single day highest jump of 620 cases, India’s Omicron tally rises above 500. India also recorded 247, 417 new cases of Covid-19, the highest in 236 days. The rise is 27 percent higher than the number of cases recorded a day ago, when 194, 720 positive individuals were reported.

Maharashtra continued its top position with 1, 367 cases of the Omicron, followed by Rajasthan Delhi, Kerala, and Karnataka. The Omicron variant is heavily mutated, with more than 30 reported mutations in the spike protein. Several experts have claimed that the high mutation is an important reason why Omicron is more resistant to existing vaccines.
