UK government shortens COVID-19 isolation period from 7 to 5 days

British officials have announced that the self-isolation period for people in England testing positive for COVID-19 will be reduced from the previously recommended seven days to five full days, starting next week.

According to Health Secretary SajidJavid, preliminary signs suggest that the rate of hospitalization from COVID-19 in the country is starting to drop. Javid said that as per official data, around two-thirds of the individuals are no longer infectious by the end of day five, after testing positive. From Monday, people infected with COVID-19 will be allowed to end isolation from the start of day 6, after two negative tests.

At present, those infected can end self-isolation after seven days if they test negative on the sixth and seventh day… (ET Healthworld – AP, January 14, 2022)
