Mild COVID cases still tied to attention and memory problems: Study

Individuals with mild COVID-19 who do not have any other conventional long COVID symptoms can still have deterioration in attention and memory six to nine months following the infection, reported a study by Oxford University.

Study participants who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier but had no other traditional long COVID symptoms completed some exercises that helped test their memory and cognitive ability. The participants fared significantly worse when it came to recalling personal experiences (episodic memory) up to six months after infection. Additionally, there was a greater decline in their ability to sustain attention over time, compared to uninfected individuals, up to nine months following the infection. The researchers stated that episodic memory and attention span came back to normal after six and nine months, respectively… (Reuters, January 19, 2022)
