Sputnik V vaccine shows strong protection against Omicron: Study

A new study, published as a pre-print in medRxiv, suggests that two doses of Sputnik V vaccine provide over two-fold higher virus neutralizing antibodies compared to two doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

The study was conducted at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani (Italy) by a team of researchers of the Institute and the Gamaleya National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology (Gamaleya Center). Two doses of the Sputnik V vaccine were found to generate 2.1 times higher geometric mean titers (GMT) of neutralizing antibodies to the Omicron variant in total, than two doses of Pfizer vaccine, and 2.6 times higher titers three months following vaccination. In the top quartile of participants with high RBD-specific IgG antibodies, 100% of those who received Sputnik V could neutralize Omicron variant, compared to 83.3% of those vaccinated with Pfizer.
