There are a few exceptions wherein emergency medical intervention is administered without informed consent. Informed consent may not be required in emergency situations, where a delay in treatment in order to obtain consent, could cause harm to the patient. Additionally, if the doctor believes that the patients emotional and physical condition could be affected unfavorably by full disclosure of the treatment risks, disclosure may be legally withheld. There are certain situations where the patients may indicate that they do not want to be informed of the treatment procedure and associated risks. Such waivers must be documented in writing in order to safeguard the doctor. [Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2010;16(1):1-8; Indian J Urol. 2009;25(3):343–7; Cardiovasc Ther. 2012;30(3):e140-5.]
