COVID-19 vaccine boosters must start with most vulnerable: WHO

The World Health Organization has said that COVID-19 vaccine boosters should now be offered to people, beginning with the most vulnerable. 

The global health agency had previously insisted that boosters were not required for healthy adults and the move comes as an acknowledgment that vaccine supply is improving worldwide. The agency stated at a press briefing that it was now recommending booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, starting with the highest-priority groups, about four to six months following the first two vaccine doses. The WHO stated that its expert vaccine group evaluated the growing data about booster doses and noted the decline in immune protection over time. WHOs director of immunization, vaccines and biological, Dr Kate OBrien, said that boosters are a part of the vaccination program; however, it does not mean unchecked use in all age groups… (ET Healthworld – AP, January 22, 2022)
