Genome sequencing results from a Delhi-based laboratory suggest that in all COVID-19 deaths from the last week of December 2021 to the first week of January 2022, the patients were infected with the Omicron variant. Almost all the deceased had comorbidities, with many of them having serious underlying medical conditions. 

Delhi has been reporting 30-40 deaths related to COVID-19 every day despite a drop in new cases. Delhi government has been conducting genome sequencing of samples obtained from deceased patients in order to identify if they were infected with the Omicron or the Delta variant. The results received from one of the laboratories indicate that in 100% samples, the variant was Omicron.
