India’s daily Covid-19 new cases remained below 3 lakh for the third consecutive day, but death crossed the 500 mark for the second day. Wednesday’s case count stood at 286,994 cases and 501 deaths.

The reduction in new cases might be linked to the weekend effect and a public holiday when testing tends to reduce.

Although the relative death counts as compared to cases have been significantly lower in the third wave when one compares it with the second wave, the steady increase in deaths is a worrying trend.  Maharashtra, reported 79 deaths, Kerala reported 63, Tamil Nadu reported 47 fatalities, Karnataka and West Bengal each reported more than 30 deaths, Odisha and Chhattisgarh reported 10 each, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Assam reported more than 20.

In cases, Kerala ad Karnataka reported a maximum of over 40,000 cases. Maharashtra reported 35,000 cases, Tamil Nadu showed an increase in cases with more than 30,000 new infections being reported on Wednesday. Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh reported cases between 10,000 to 20,000 cases. Other sixteen states reported cases between 1,000 and 10,000 for the next sixteen states.
