Doctors, at the Amma Mini Clinics in Tiruchy were shocked on Friday when a termination message was circulated on Whatsapp groups. Around 1,820 of these doctors were hired on contractual basis in 2020, when the AIADMK government opened these mini clinics.

On 4th January, the Health Minister Ma Subramanian, had, announced the closure of these Amma Mini Clinics with an extension for the doctors till March 31. Subramanian, said he had asked the department not to terminate anyone, he would meet them after the elections, and try to accommodate them in other departments.

In a worrying note, the doctors said that although they were hired for the mini clinics, they worked tirelessly in Covid ICUs and helped transport patients when cases were rising, but as the cases started decreasing they were being thrown out. Moreover, the future of 1,820 MBBS graduates was still uncertain and this was not the way doctors should be treated.
